Okay, so how do I get this to work?

Shinn — Mon, 01/25/2010 - 19:03

Okay so I have been following this patch for a very long time and have been anticipating it like crazy but I have no idea how to play this...

I have the following

NTSC-J Playstation 2
Dragon Quest V PS2 Ultimate Hits

How in the world do I play this wonderful translation? D:

Japanese PS2s still have region coding, I think. Do you have a pretty good system? If so, I think emulation may be your best bet if you don't have a modded console.

I'm not totally familiar with region coding. I do know that my NTSC-U console hasn't had any trouble playing other region's (NTSC-U or J or PAL) games. Although for PAL games I have to use pal2ntsc, or a couple other video patchers, to alter the video output.

I use the Free McBoot memory card exploit with ESR to boot the burnt DVD game on my console since I don't have a modchip to do it through hardware. I probably could use HDLoader but I don't have an extra working IDE drive at the moment to test it.

I do not condone piracy I'm just informing the person of various methods of playing it on hardware.

Sadly...

My computer is mostly garbage and emulation wouldn't be an option. :(

I guess i'll have to get my Playstation modded to play this? That sucks. D: At least when I finally do get it modded or something all I have to do is rip the image from my game and patch it right? Ugh, can't wait to play this.

Modded is probably not the best way to go. There are much safer methods that don't solder your motherboard.

Just use a memory card with Free McBoot on it, there should be tutorials on how to install it via Youtube.
