How do I run this thing?

lockcitra22 — Sat, 01/23/2010 - 04:01

As with every fan of Dragon Quest/Warrior III I was ecstatic when I saw the fan translation so I began downloading it. There was just one major problem: I use snes9x as my emulator and it said the game was corrupt, stating "Bad checksum." Is there a problem with my emulator? Computer? Or is it the rom? What seems to be the major malfunction? Thanks for your time.

Patch problem most likely

KenZS — Mon, 02/15/2010 - 10:51

Yeah, I had the same problem, i pulled out the old rom and applied patch, and was like wtf, its not working.
They said in the readme file to not soft patch as it wont work but on the snes9x I tried it on, soft patching worked fine
Of course, the soft patching is no good on the PSP emulator (I dont wanna play it on PC) just hangs and crashes as it patches :x

So I think I spent at least 3hrs, patching and removing the header, eventually, something worked!
Honestly think it was just a corrupt rom I had unzipped because I was frustrated and kept working with the same rom I initially
Extracted the same old room again, think all I did was patch it, and worked fine this time o.O or at least thats what i think I did

still says bad checksum but works beautifully on my PSP now :D
and worked fine when tested on PC emu
Flood of good old memories to childhood days to early high school when I beat the remake
10 years later, still <3ing, especially with this great translation :)

dq3 bad checksum

ranzor — Mon, 07/05/2010 - 18:24

I'm having the same problem. I tried deleting the header with snestool, and then applying the patch, but it still doesn't work. Could someone help me?

Idk if its the same problem

far336 — Wed, 02/24/2010 - 22:43

I think i had the same problem. see when i open the game from ZSNES and i go to the first page where it shows a person with a sword and the website dqtranslation.com and shows specail thanks and white background. when i click the button the screen turns black. nothing else happend. i tried fast forwarding it to make time go faster to see if anything happends. nothing happend. could anyone help me out? i cant find the Readme file about that information you said. i tried that. i need a person's help to guide me. like step 1 step 2 etc.ty

Bad checksum doesn't mean you

DaMarsMan — Wed, 07/07/2010 - 10:32

Bad checksum doesn't mean you patched wrong. The checksums are used to determine a correct rom dump. The reason I didn't repair it is that it probably shouldn't be.

I see. Problem is, the same

ranzor — Thu, 07/08/2010 - 03:08

I see. Problem is, the same thing that happened with far336 is happening to me. After the translation credits screen, the game freezes with ZSNES. When I used snes9x, even that first screen didn't load. A rom I had previously patched with v1.0 runs just fine, though.

EDIT: I tried it again without using snestool and it worked. I guess I already had an unheadered rom.
