Glory of Heracles III Bug?

Desperad0 — Wed, 12/23/2009 - 05:27

I've run into an issue that keeps popping up. I thought it was a random ZSNES crash, but it keeps happening at this same spot. It's where Reion joins you after leaping off the tower at night. After you get the message that Reion has joined you, the controls cease to function. the music plays, but the controls do not respond. I tried rewinding ZSNES, but the controls still fail to function at this point. I am using ZSNES 1.51.

I'm not sure what this is but

DaMarsMan — Wed, 12/23/2009 - 06:50

I'm not sure what this is but I tested the part in ZSNES 1.51 and it seemed to play fine.

Replace your rom with the one in there and rename it. It could be a patching issue. Make sure to save at Hermes and restart from that save to refresh things in case it was.

Found the problem

Desperad0 — Wed, 12/23/2009 - 07:26

I was using PAR codes at the time. After starting a new game without them, the game did not freeze.

A lengthy error report...

Novalia Spirit — Mon, 12/28/2009 - 16:20

Below is a list of bugs that I have found while playing the game. I found a few more, but my computer froze at a certain point, so all of the notes that I didn't save were lost.

Strings where text overflows:
And to the left it's the personnel's bedroom.
The king abolished slavery, you know.
Come back once you've buried something somewhere!
Heracles: Have you really forgotten everything?
Only the most dedicated musicians are allowed to play here.
Zeus, Hades, Poseidon, Hephaistos, Ares, Athene, Hermes and so on.
I'm collecting records of all the harp players seeking recognition for their skills.
It's because of the monster extermination effort and some other reasons.
You tell of a never-ending night, whereas we have a never-ending day.
Isn't there a way to avoid this pointless conflict?
But often the king is on a journey or upstairs pondering.
I am impatiently awaiting Heracles' return, yet I'm also afraid.
Everyone put away your weapons. Something is wrong! [Note: this is battle dialogue]
But I feel something terrible will happen if you do.
I still don't completely understand. Who was right and who was wrong?

Also, when the hero falls into a hole at the beginning of the game, if the hero's name contains five or six characters, one of the messages displayed during the scene overflows.

Typos and grammar errors:
seperated [Several instances exist]
I'd like to show you, but my legs feel like their petrified.
Who want's to learn it?
What about you memory?
That is why nobody knows for which god is was originally built.
So were too late...
There' a supposed to be only two of them
incured
Let's finish it of quickly!
immortailty
I'm more concerned about my memories then some destiny forced upon me!
I have a bad feeling abou this.
Why are do you care so much for these humans?
No, the world's much to complicated to be described in terms of good and evil.
but here'sthe problem
recieve
concieved
villian
Using the blood doesn't just effect you humans but us gods as well.

Also, there are a few instances where "Oceanus" is referenced as "Oceanos." Likewise, there is at least one case where the word "Hades" is uncapitalized.

Duplicated words:
If we'd find the place the place from our dreams that'd tell us something about us.
In order to rise to rise to the Skies, you need Pegasus.
The party is now with with Albion
So the the rumors are true.
can can
Only the most courageous would fit this this job, but...
You are very well well mannered... [Also, change "well mannered" to "well-mannered"]

Missing words or punctuation:
Southwest from here there's supposed to be village inhabited by some strange old men.
For some reason the almighty Zeus ignoring the fact that the Earth is overrun by monsters
So this where it's been.
This our doing, right.
Baor, or should I call you Shadax[line]Surely you understand this by now. [The real error here is that one sentence has a period, whereas the other doesn't]
Uranos voice is heard. [This lacks an apostrophe after "Uranos"]
the lower area, the worse
So you are the immortals who rescued the king... Okay! I will spread the news about guys everywhere Greece!
Are you the one's released the horses of the sun wagon?

Things pertaining to the Myth Handbook:
Athene: She is the god of war <- Change "god" to "goddess."
The entries for Heaven and Prometheus contain several errors.
The entry for Dionysus lacks the word "without."
In Greek mythology, the winged horse Pegasus is usually depicted as male. Does the Japanese version really portray Pegasus as female, or is it neutral?

Miscellaneous:

1. The message displayed when a character learns a spell at level up makes no sense: [spell name] can use magic again!

2. When a monster drops an item in battle, a blank message always precedes this. Fix this if you can.

3. Pressing the confirm button after the following message is displayed causes the period character to disappear: If the sun has stopped, that can only mean that Helios' horse carriage has been stalled somewhere.

4. Change "by" to "with" in the following string: bring peace to this world filled by confusion.

5. Change ", not rely" to "not to rely" in the following string: I've come to the decision, not rely on the gods of Olympus anymore. Also, someone I know suggested the following, feel free to use it or just ignore it: "I have come to the decision to henceforth sever my reliance upon the gods of Olympus."

6. During the battle where you fight the heroes as Baor, Albion's name is displayed as g's(ok'l.

7. During the hero's flashback sequence near the end of the game, there is a part where you see the very beginning of the game again. The part where the naming screen is invoked is really buggy, which is probably due to the fact that the menu isn't arranged like it is in the Japanese game, and the code for this sequence doesn't take the new arrangement into account.

8. Garbage graphics appear after the following message: You shall know the true power of Lord Uranos and me!

9. Consider changing "for her" to "to her" in the following message: Goddess of the green nature of the earth. She extends her love to all things that live on the earth. Because of this, all should be grateful for her.

10. The sequence during the ending where the four remaining heroes part is extremely buggy.

11. From the battle against Albion: Albion shouted! "Lord Uranos grant[line]"I beg you, grant more power to me."

12. When Albion prays to Uranos during that battle, there isn't enough room to display "a black light" when the first character is struck.

13. The last entry in Reion's journal starts with Dear [hero's name]; there isn't enough room on the line to display more than four characters for the hero's name. This may be deliberate, but I suspect it isn't.

14. The second page of Baor's journal contains absolutely nothing except garbage graphics; what you see seems to vary as you progress in the game.

15. In the "Equip" menu, the "Whose?" and "Equipment" windows overlap, which prevents the fourth and fifth party members from appearing in the list; you can still select them, however.

16. Reword the question in this message: "What do you want me to find? [choice]Yes [choice]No"

17. Change "much" to "many" in the following message: You'll land much more hits using my technique.

18. The letter "k" in the naming menu is represented by "K." Fortunately, it doesn't affect the character's name.

19. The option "Stay here" for the menu that asks where you want the ship outside Athens to go pushes the menu border.

20. The right column in the window border is corrupted during certain animations that utilize Mode 7. Examples include viewing the surrounding area via Eye of the Gods, jumping from a tower, and viewing an image of the Earth during the ending. This may happen in the original game as well, but I haven't tested.

21. Just a suggestion, change "after" to "though" or "is" to "remained" in the following message: Even after we slaves became citizens the work is still as hard as ever. Alternatively: Even now that we slaves have become citizens, the work is still as hard as ever.

22. After accepting or declining a shopkeeper's offer to buy or sell an item, a tile will disappear from one of the menu borders at the top of the screen. Sometimes this won't happen.

23. This last one is from memory and I could be wrong, but when a guard frees the party from jail in Persia, I'm pretty sure that he mentions that the monsters originate from the southwest; in reality, however, their base lies to the southeast.

Sorry for sounding harsh, but it is pretty clear that this translation hasn't been sufficiently tested and polished before publication. I would strongly recommend, before a new patch is released, that you run the entire script through a spell checker, and if you have enough patience, test every single string for the map dialogue with a debugger. That's what I'd do, anyway.
