Dialogue typos and bugs

N0Lif3 — Sun, 01/31/2010 - 08:03

I don't know if this is the right place for this, but I want to bring to some errors and mistakes I've found to the attention of the translation crew.

*Spoilers ahead*
As much as I'd like to skate by telling the dialogue typos or bugs I've found without revealing possible spoilers for others who have found mistakes that aren't very far in the game, they are necessary as so they can be pinpointed for a much easier fix - I imagine.

1.) Henry's Kidnapper Hideout (as child)

I think while encountering a group with a Laughing Bag, a string of battle text went off screen and didn't wrap around like it's suppose to. It occurred before I had Papas in my party. Sorry I can't be more specific.

2.) Oracleberry Casino (as adult)

During a game of Parcheesi, if you find Wayfarer Clothes it'll have random Japanese text around the "found" prompt window. But otherwise the Clothes are fine in your inventory.

3.) Santa Rosa (as adult)

At the new cave inn, the Innkeeper's wife says "This was an inn..." She should've said "THERE was an inn..." She's talking about the Inn that used to be there before the attack.

Thanks for the tips. The game is rather huge and we didn't have that many beta testers. Will look into each of those!

Fixed #2 and put it in the 003 hotfix. Will have someone else look into #3 but any main script dialogue fixes will not show up until we release v 1.1. If someone can get more specifics on #1 that would help.

After Marrying Biancha

Ernie — Tue, 02/02/2010 - 02:55

I'm playing through Biancha's part now and after the wedding if you check her status screen it says (Hero's) then some Japanese characters instead of wife.

Ernie — Fri, 02/05/2010 - 21:16

Anther minor one--the info for the wrecking ball says it only does enemy groups, but it actually does all enemies, and when I played through the game the first time in Pcsx2 around the area where you find Martha the graphics angle gets badly distorted--I'm currently about half through the game on my ps2 and I'll see if it still does it and let you know if it does.

Please do! I tested the temple a number of times and never had an issue. Which area are you having problems in? Outside? Treasure rooms? Assembly hall? Catacombs?

Ernie — Sat, 02/06/2010 - 01:21

Not the temple, on the way to the final boss, just before the cut scene of Martha and Papas, the area to that after you leave the cave part at the second or third bridge the camera perspective shifts to where your looking up from below (Flora looks kind of funny from this perspective;) anyway, it makes it really hard to find the path, but it corrects itself when you enter the next cave and then screws up again after the Martha/Papas cut scene by the cave where you get the Holy Water Jar until you go back inside, it's not impossible to get through but pretty hard, I'll probably be back there the next day or two assuming nothing comes up, and I'll let you know.

Ernie — Sun, 02/07/2010 - 23:32

I've completed the game on the ps2 and the graphic errors were gone, so it must be an emulator issue. As I said before, it doesn't stop you from completing the game. I have found another minor bug though, the chissom compass I believe is supposed to give a reading of where you are on the mountain and the reading only gives two messed up looking characters instead. Also, if after you enter the evil realm to Jambawa(?) return to El Haven, reenter the cave and remove the fire, water, and life rings from the statues (they don't need to be there to return to Jambawa as you can simply cast Return) you get a jap symbol (kanji?)different for each ring.

Never even thought about going back and getting the rings. Oh, and the town's Jahanna. Talk to Pippin and get an Office Space reference.

crash bug + minor stuff

Mo — Thu, 02/11/2010 - 03:50

Guess this thread is as good as any to report a crash I came across:

Game hard locks (well, music still plays) if I talk to one of the dogs in the courtyard of Reinhart castle when sneaking back in with Henry. Repeatable. I'm playing on ps2 hardware using hdloader, hotfixes 009. Haven't tried 010 yet but I will get around to it at some point, and I wasn't able to find a changelog for it so I don't know if it's addressed in that.

More minor battle text thing, I've seen "<arrow>" in the battle log window for several things. I don't have the exact text but here's the situations I've seen it:
Confused monster does a strange dance.<arrow>Nothing happens.
Henry casts Kasap<arrow>But it is nullified (he was stopspelled or whatever).
Also saw <arrow> in a monster's critical hit.

May as well take some time to say thanks for the translation, it's great so far. i especially appreciate that you translated all the party talk, since that's the kind of thing that tends to get stripped out of commercial localizations.

Mo — Thu, 02/11/2010 - 05:15

Hmm, it crashes when it should be launching the fake queen battle too.

I loaded up a no-hotfixes image I still have hanging around on the ps2 hdd and that doesn't crash though.

I'll keep a save around and test with a fresh patched copy with 010 hotfixes tomorrow, takes too long to get an image over to my ps2 to try it right now.

Yeah when I reverted Windows

Tom-Servo — Thu, 02/11/2010 - 07:39

Yeah when I reverted Windows 7 it changed my battleinserter program to an other version that didn't support . So any arrow/crash problems with 009 (including the dogs crash) is fixed with 10.

First Freeze

N0Lif3 — Tue, 02/16/2010 - 22:24

The game just crashed on me for the first time. I'm still playing on hotfix 3, I haven't bothered copying over a more recently hotfixed iso to my HDLoader PS2.

I found the "Book of Ibuul" playing parcheesi in the demon world. I used the book in my bag three times, curious at what it does, and it froze up my game on the third use. The first and second times, I got messages about how I shouldn't be reading this. They were right!

Another thing I found. When you place the three rings to open the gate to the demon world, if you remove a ring it'll show a japanese letter in place of the ring's name.

Your version is way too old

Tom-Servo — Tue, 02/16/2010 - 22:57

Your version is way too old to be reporting bugs with. The ring thing is fixed for sure and I did major modifications that may have fixed the "Book of Ibuul" issue.

Grab the newest and see what happens.

The Dwaine — Tue, 02/16/2010 - 23:11

As far as I know, the Book of Ibuul can't be used as an item. It's for the museum. Didn't know you could get it playing Parcheesi. Thought you could only buy it from the frau in Zoomfen/Returndia.

Tom-Servo — Wed, 02/17/2010 - 11:30

There are a few lines in System for that:

@W1@ read a short passage from the @W2@.
@W1@ started to become a fan of Ibuul.

@W1@ read a short passage from the @W2@.
@AG1SU@@AR@ head fills with frightening ideas.

@W1@ read a short passage from the @W2@.
@W1@ thought about what was written...
This is a really skewed view on things...

Might be more, but it didn't crash on me.
