Can't advance more into the game..

X — Sat, 01/30/2010 - 11:47

I've followed all the instruction given on the main page, apply the fixes.etc..etc..

But, I can't advance more at the early of the game.
The game stopped(not stuck) when the Hero received a map from his father,
"[Hero Name] obtains the mysterious map!"

and the game stopped at there..
I have pressed all the button, but still nothing happened.

the background graphic(ocean) was not stopped.
but the text box are.

Oh,
I'm using PCSX2 to play it.
the latest one, 0.9.6.

So, any advice?

Sounds like an emulation bug

Sounds like an emulation bug with PCSX2.

Yes, apparently turning off the speed hacks does the trick.

Zeith — Sun, 01/31/2010 - 17:10

I have the same problems with PCSX2 sometimes, from what I've figured out its related to some wierd sound bug at the begging of the game. When you get to choose to either continue, reset or create a new adventure the sound sometimes bugs out and instead of music you get a highpitched tone or two. If that happens the receiving the maps bugs, atleast for me.

Edit: oh, and a good thing to check if you're not sure is to listen to the background music. If there is non, then the game is bugged and you have to restart.

Rama — Mon, 02/01/2010 - 00:19

This is confirmed to be a PCSX2 bug (one we'll try to fix soon).
It occurs after the intro video, on the New Game screen.
At that point you'll either get the normal music (all is fine), or a high pitched noise
(sound thread died).
To get around it, try to start the game a few times until the music plays.
You can use a savestate on the video that runs before it.
Should the sound not work, simply reload the state and try again.

The problem doesn't occur after loading / starting a game anymore.

Oho!
I found the solution, thanks for the help from the emulation site. :3

Just like Rama said, the game freeze/stopped when there are no sound at the start of the game. You have to restart the game until you can actually hear the background sound.
(it will not work by simply using the savestate function)

To get the sound working,
-Run your PCSX2 emulator(0.9.6 or Beta r1888)
-Go to Config --> Configure
-set the sound plugin to SPU2-X 1.2.0
-Run the game either from Disc or Mounting programs
-If there is no sound...
-use the [Tab] button to increase/decrease the emulation speeds back and forth..
-.. until you can hear a background sound..

Found another solution

jose_ccp — Wed, 05/26/2010 - 23:49

Hey, here's what worked for me: just wait until the introducing theme finishs (the famous one that plays along with Dragon quest 5 logo), before pressing start button. Then you should hear the backgroud music in "continue, create or delete quest" screen. I've also disabled all speed hacks

Please confirm if this works.

I've tried this with PCSX2

King Zenith — Thu, 05/27/2010 - 09:12

I've tried this with PCSX2 0.9.6 and it's hit and miss. If you hear the music when you get to the "continue, create or delete quest" screen then you win. Many times, you will only hear a loud continuous beep. If you hear the beep instead of the music, it means the music thread died in PCSX2 which will cause crashes at many points in the game (including when you receive the magic map).

The latest builds of PCSX2 0.9.7 have fixed this issue (and several other issues too including not being able to view the world map). You can download the latest SVN code for PCSX2 and build it yourself, or you can do a google search for an existing build that someone has kindly made available.
