Dragon Quest 5 (PS2) version 1.2 patch is up!

Grab it from the projects page! I'll make a more in depth post about the release, but for now I'll put a few bullet points:

1. 1.1 and 1.0 is no longer supported.
2. Each patch archive lists the final MD5sum you should get after expanding and applying the ppf patch. Make sure these match before reporting issues. The MD5sum given after expanding is not the MDsum to verify against. Be sure to burn at 4x or 2x speeds using DVD-R media. Not doing so may cause skips.
3. Included a translated version of the original DQ5 PS2 manual.
4. Open PS2 Loader Project - v0.7 can play the game on a PS2 over your local network. PSS videos are laggy but actual gameplay is faster than DVD-R media. This method requires extensive setup.

Dragon Quest 5 (PS2) version 1.2 patch available soon!

The new patch has plenty of bug and script fixes. There won't be any need to apply hot fixes to avoid crashing, but be sure to properly apply the patch to a cleanly expanded ISO.

As of now we are no longer supporting version 1.1, so if you are having issues with this version please wait for v1.2. Thanks!

Just waiting on getting the manual done...

Dragon Quest 5 (PS2) version 1.1 Hot Fixes

Current hot fix 1.1 rar version 004 - 3/02/10

If you are having crashing issues on a real PS2 please calculate/post the MD5sum of your ISO, the style (DW/DQ), and if you have debug mode turned on. Thanks!

Dragon Quest 5 (PS2) version 1.1 patch is up!

First thing to do is to delete your version 1.0 ISO. The 1.1 patch can not be applied to the 1.0 ISO. You must use the expander to make another clean iso then apply the patch.

There is a small issue with character titles that slipped through the cracks. The following fixes character titles. Not a critical issue but here is the hotfix.

InjectBytes %1 4F297C48 4C6567656E64617279AF4865726F00000000

Hotfixes for bugs between revision releases and other Misc Info

Check out the projects page for hot fixes to minor game issues. (ones that don't cause crashes) After a few weeks (or more, depending) we'll release version version 1.1 of the patch. It will include all these fixes plus the crash bug fix. For now though make sure you apply the crash bug fix at the minimum.

Current hot fix rar version 012 - 2/16/10 (Check project page for instructions. You will need to rebuild from scratch if you used hot fix 008 or 009)

PCSX2 information:

I'll try to have someone post the best configuration to play the patched ISO. There are some known issues that occur in PCSX2 but not on a real PS2. When all else fails please inquire the PCSX2 plugin authors for possible fixes.

Debug mode on code:

Below is the debug mode enable patch. It will not be included in the hot fixes or any other version of the patch. You'll have to apply it manually. Must be applied last. (Hot Fix 008 and up will disable the code by default)

InjectBytes %1 402b5e74 26104200

Please be advised that doing certain things in debug mode will cause the game to crash, and most if not all occur in the Japanese version too. (So don't report any of them as bugs) Be careful with making party changes and saving, or generally saving at all after using the debug menu.

Putting Bianca and Flora in your party might be fun, but there is a good chance it will crash on principle!

Oh, and please be sure to check party chat often by selecting talk from the main menu. It probably was the lengthy most part of the project.

Dragon Quest 5 Bugfix

Unfortunately there was a small bug that was found yesterday's patch release.

Please apply the following patch after patching with the translation patch of your choice.

DaMarsMan — Sat, 01/23/2010 - 12:18

DQ Translations is proud to present our Dragon Quest 5 English Translation Patch v1.0. Everything you need to know you can find in the readme included with the patch.

DQ Translations would like to thank all the committed fans that have loved this series despite the unfair treatment it has received in the past. Just like you, we waited until, "Eh, maybe next year." turned into, "Aw, come on!" After all that hoping, waiting, and even begging the Square Enix representatives on Slime Knights, it’s finally here.

Many of us have spent countless hours working on this project while juggling jobs and school. We hope that the effort we put in will help make this game a memorable experience for you! Don’t forget to stop by our forums to chat with other members about the translation or the series.

Dragon Quest 5 (PS2) version 1.1 patch coming soon

The patch will contain all the main script changes we have made since release and of course all of the hot fixes and more. It also will include a Borongo/ect fix that works 100% (Found out the initial fix only kinda works) and more plural support.

When version 1.1 is released 1.0 will no longer be supported. There will be more hot fixes to come but they will be more and more minor.

Glory of Heracles 3 progress continues.

DaMarsMan — Wed, 12/16/2009 - 14:03

I'm aware that most of you haven't played this game. It's so damn good that I want you to. I've had much hacking and translation progress on this game. I played it from start to finish and fixed everything I ran into. I'm sure there are still a few text overflow bugs and such but it's coming along so nice. The game features a Myth Handbook that describes a lot of the Greek terms. This has been translated and inserted. It also has a Journal that one of the main characters keeps. This has also been translated and inserted. Maybe I can get this thing out in a month of two if I work hard.

On a side note, we are working on another project that isn't listed on here. I won't say what it is, but I will say that it is not Dragon Quest. It is a similar style RPG for SNES and has first person battles also. I'm sure you'll enjoy it when we finish it up.
